You'll Follow Me Back With the Sun in Your Eyes...

Recently I have developed a new fantasy. This development comes after much pondering and meditation. I wish that for the remainder of my life, wherever I go, I would be followed by a mariachi band.

If you have not seen a mariachi band live at a wedding or restaurant or anywhere, then you cannot understand how incredibly cool they truly are. Mere audio or video cannot do them proper justice. It has to be a real and legit band, the kind that take themselves very seriously in their appearance and performance. There are plenty of posers and wannabes out there. KNOW THE DIFFERENCE!!

Example of a Poser

There is something inherently awesome about being near one when they are performing. First thing you notice when you see them is their dress. No matter the color, they always look majestic, impressive, intimidating, and very very traditional. Wherever they go, people move out of their way. Maybe it's to allow proper spacing so the people don't get their ears blown out by their beautiful voices, but I like to think it is because their aura compells others to back up.

I would feel so cool if I had mariachis follow me wherever I went. I would always feel good about myself, and it's a great way to learn Spanish. When I'm walking, they're right behind me playing some tunes.

If I'm tired, I can lay down and they can sing me to sleep.

If I want to sit and think about stuff or have "quiet time" they can go and get some tacos to share with me later, because everyone knows that tacos rule.

I've tried to think if there is an American equivalent to a Mexican Mariachi.

Obviously I haven't thought about this enough.

This is one of the envies I hold for our wonderful neighbors to the south. I also wish I could play and sing in a mariachi band. Of course this may never happen because:

  1. I am very very white.
  2. I have no natural hispanic blood.
  3. Because of #1 I cannot possibly look as cool as a Mexicano wearing one of those outfits.

Because of this sad situation, I can only wait for the day when I can feel as close to being one as possible...
